Password protecting a page or post, step by step

  1. Go to your WordPress dashboard and click to edit the page, post, product or other custom post type post that you want to password to protect.
💡 Do you use a page builder like Divi Builder, Elementor or Beaver Builder? Make your password protection settings before you click the Enable Visual Builder button. If you are using the Classic Editor, you might find the Visibility Settings below your page/post content. Watch the video above for more information.
  2. Make sure that the Page tab is active in the right hand sidebar and click Public to open the Post Visibility modal.
  3. Change the Post Visibility from the default setting Public to Password Protected.
  4. Enter a secure password in the password field.
  5. Click the blue Publish (or Update) button in the top right corner to save your password.
  6. Scroll down to the Permalink tab and click the URL below VIEW PAGE to preview your login page in a new tab.

You might need to clear your website and browser cache to see the login page.

How To Style the Password Protected Form

The design of your login page depends on the theme you are using, but it often looks quite uninspiring.

If you are using Divi, you can style the password protected page using custom CSS. If you don’t like custom coding, you can use a plugin like Divi Toolbox to style the password protected form.
